Jim Sherard will be inducted into the Monroe High School Athletic Hall of Achievement on Friday, August 20 at halftime of the Hornets Varsity Football game vs. Talawanda. This well deserved honor is in recognition of his overall contributions to Monroe High School Athletics as a Student-Athlete, Teacher, Coach, Athletic Director, and Assistant Principal.
As a Student-Athlete he played Football, Basketball and Tennis and excelled at all 3 sports. After College, Jim started his career as a teacher and eventually made his way back to Monroe High School.
He coached the Girls Basketball Team to consecutive League Championship’s in 1977-1978 and 1978-1979 and he was named MML Coach of the Year in 1978-1979. He later became the Boys Basketball Coach and his 1982-1983 team still holds the record for points in a game.
Besides Basketball, he also was Head Coach for Boys Cross Country, Boys and Girls Track and was an Assistant Baseball Coach.
Jim was the Athletic Director from 1986-1994 and oversaw a very successful Athletic Program during his tenure. He finished his career at Monroe as an Assistant Principal from 1994-1996.
Jim is Monroe as they come. He gave himself unselfishly for the betterment of the school, athletic program and community during his tenure in Monroe. Without question, he is a true blue Hornet through and through.
