The following guidelines have been established for student-athletes to return to interscholastic participation. These guidelines have been established by the Office of Governor DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health and have included recommendations from the Ohio High School Athletic Association and our sports medicine partners at Premier Health.

The following guidelines must be followed for any athlete to participate in interscholastic activities sponsored by Monroe Local Schools. If you have any questions regarding these guidelines, please contact the Monroe Jr./Sr. High School Athletic Department.

Mandatory Return to Athletics Safety Guidelines

Prior to departing for each activity, students should complete a self assessment that includes:

    1. Taking their temperature - students with a temperature of 100.4 or higher in the last 24 hours should stay home.
    2. Assessing symptoms - Do you have any symptoms of COVID-19? A list of symptoms of COVID-19 as identified by the Center for Disease Control can be found here.
    3. Have you had contact with someone diagnosed with Covid-19 within the last 14 days?

If a student answers “Yes” to any of these questions or if they are feeling ill or rundown, they should not attend the workout.

  1. Students should only report to campus / practice at the time communicated by their coach.
  2. All students are required to follow requirements relative to face coverings as directed by the Ohio Department of Health and / or the Butler County Health District.
    • All student-athletes are required to have a facial covering on their person or with their equipment while attending an interscholastic activity sponsored by Monroe Local Schools.
  3. Upon arrival to the facility, athletes shall complete the “Check-In” process which will include the daily monitoring/screening of the self-assessment questions.
  4. Students who do not pass the “Check-In” process because of a high temperature or answering “Yes” to any of the self assessment questions will not be permitted to participate that day and until they satisfy the requirements set forth by Premier Health or the Butler County Health District. Students will be provided with the following letter that should be taken home to their Parent/Guardian from Premier Health if they are excluded from the activity for this reason.
  5. Athletes must cooperate with the screening protocols set in place upon arrival to the facility, workout, or practice session. Failure to cooperate will result in their denial of participation in the activity.
    • Participants are reminded that participation is a privilege and not a right.
  6. If athletes have a pre-existing condition that is susceptible to COVID-19 (eg., moderate to severe asthma, obesity, heart conditions, diabetes, obesity, or chronic immune deficiencies) they should consider staying home.
  7. Athletes should arrive at the workout or facility alone. Riding with multiple individuals in the same car (that are not immediate family members) is discouraged.
  8. If a parent or guardian permits an athlete (Athletes “A”) to travel with a person not in their immediate household (Athlete “B”) and Athlete “B”  fails the screening / “Check-In” process upon arrival, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian of Athlete “A” to arrange for transportation for their athlete home from the activity that day.
  9. Athletes should clean their hands immediately upon entering the facility or workout session and as able while at the facility, and at the conclusion of the workout or treatment.
  10. Athletes should not touch their face while working out. If they do, they should sanitize their hands before continuing the workout or practice session.
  11. Athletes should bring their own hand sanitizer to games, practices, workouts, conditioning and skills sessions, if possible and are encouraged to provide their own sanitation supplies when utilizing their personal sport equipment.
  12. All electronic devices are encouraged to remain in students' cars and secured in personal bags. After a student arrives on campus and washes their hands, prior to participation, all electronic devices should remain secured to prevent the potential transfer of germs/bacteria. If an electronic device must be used, athletes should wash their hands again prior to returning to participation.
    • Students are reminded that locker rooms may not be available to secure valuable times (including electronic devices) and are encouraged to bring only items absolutely essential to the activity with them on campus.
  13. Maintain social distancing of six feet and must remain in their designated groups.
  14. Face coverings are required when inside any facility (indoor or outdoor), except during the period that athletes are engaged in physical activity unless otherwise indicated by state or local authorities.
  15. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
  16. Students should arrive at the activity dressed for participation. Use of locker rooms for changing must be in a staggered format with the permission of the coach.
  17. Athletes should cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing. Practice respiratory etiquette (maintain distance: at least 6 feet), cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or flexed elbow, wash hands). If coughing persists, isolate and seek medical advice.
  18. Athletes must bring their own water bottle - public water fountains will not be available.
  19. To the extent possible, each individual item (eg., bottled beverage) should be labeled to avoid inadvertent use by another person.
  20. The Athletic Training Room is closed to students unless invited in by the Athletic Trainer or Staff Member.
  21. Towels and personal hygiene products should not be shared.
  22. Showers should not be taken at the facility.
  23. Do not share drinks.
  24. Social distancing will be mandatory during all activities and in all facilities including in the athletic training and weight rooms.
  25. Avoid contact with sick people, including close contact with those suffering from acute respiratory infections and avoid shaking hands or hugging.
  26. Shared equipment will need to be sanitized with a disinfectant before and after use. This includes free weights, mats, kettlebells, medicine balls, stability balls, bars, etc.
  27. Cold tubs for post workout recoveries will be prohibited.
  28. Participants should not congregate prior to or at the conclusion of the activity.
  29. In an effort to stay within recommended gathering sizes, spectators are not permitted to attend the workouts. Parents dropping off and picking up their athlete are encouraged to do so in their vehicle. Parents needed to speak with a coach should make prior arrangements to do so.
