School Facility Master Planning

Please join us for an update on our School Facilities Master Plan on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, in the Matson Learning Center at Monroe High School.

The Monroe Local School Board of Education over the past year has worked with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) to explore options for proceeding with our facility master plan. The current facility plan would provide new elementary school space to accommodate the growing student population that has reflected the strength and performance of the district and continued residential development in our community.
Many in our community are aware that Monroe Local Schools had been pursuing a partnership with the state in 2017-2018. In the spring of 2018, the state informed our district that due to budgetary constraints and overwhelming response from districts to partner with OFCC, Monroe Local Schools was moved down the list. That news meant that it would be multiple years until Monroe Local Schools was eligible to receive state funds for a school construction project
Currently, the Board has an option to consider called the Expedited Local Partnership Program (ELPP). ELPP would allow our community to proceed with raising local funds to build a portion of our Facility Master Plan while still preserving the chance for millions of dollars in state reimbursement to complete the plan in the future. The state has recognized the needs of our community and based on their current calculations will contribute 68% of the funds required to complete our school district facility master plan. That means millions of state dollars will be available to help reduce the burden on local taxpayers.
