Update 9/19/19 4:50 pm
We have completed a successful school day and want to update you with everything we know about this situation.
The Monroe Police are continuing their investigation but tell us that they currently have no reason to believe there was a credible threat.
Your students may see an increased police presence again on Friday. That is simply out of an abundance of caution and to try to make everyone in our schools feel as safe as possible.
As many of you expressed on social media and in calls, these are challenging times. We agree. We take all threats seriously because the safety of our children, teachers, staff and anyone who visits Monroe schools is our top priority. “If you see or hear something, say something” is a critical factor in our safety measures. Please keep doing so.
We also want to communicate with you as rapidly and transparently as possible, especially when dealing with security concerns. That can be difficult given the speed of social media, police investigations and our student privacy laws. But please believe clear communication and transparency is always our goal. Together, we will meet these challenges.
We have a very strong partnership with the Monroe Police Department and want to thank them for their immediate response and support.
We are most pleased to say that school will be in session again Friday, September 20, 2019. We look forward to seeing all of our students tomorrow.
