The school counselor's role is an integral part of the educational experience of each child. Our mission is to serve each student's individual, academic and developmental needs through individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, and consultation and collaboration with teachers/staff, families, and community stakeholders.

To meet licensure requirements, Ohio School Counselors must obtain a Master’s degree in the field of counseling and a license/certificate from the Ohio Department of Education. School counselors remain current in their field by meeting continuing education requirements.

Our counselors teach developmental guidance lessons in each kindergarten and first grade classes two times per month as well as preschool classes once per month. Classroom guidance lessons at the primary level cover various social and emotional learning topics such as:

  • Feelings
  • Emotional Regulation

  • Being Unique
  • Growth Mindset
  • Careers

We also utilize an evidence-based curriculum, "Second Step," which focuses on similar topics, such as growth-mindset and goal-setting, emotion management, empathy and kindness, and problem-solving.
