Junior High Gym Renovation Now Underway

This week, we'll start to see the first signs of progress on the junior high gym infill and renovation project at main campus. Crews will begin setting up perimeter fencing, bringing in construction equipment and dumpsters, and preparing the site for full-scale work later this month.
As things get underway, please be mindful of construction signs and restricted areas near the junior high/high school bus lot, where there will be extra foot traffic from crews entering and exiting the building.
While Monroe is in the early design and planning stages for a new high school with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, the current junior high gym renovation is separate from that project. This renovation is not connected to the high school construction plans and does not use any funds from the high school bond levy.
The estimated $2.5 million project, funded by the district’s existing general fund reserves, will provide much-needed classroom space for our students and staff, allow some common and repurposed spaces in the building to return to their original intended use, and alleviate various scheduling and logistics challenges that have resulted from a lack of available learning spaces.
When the renovation wraps during the second half of the 2025–26 school year, it will convert the existing 4,000 square-foot gymnasium into two floors with 8,000 square feet of new space including:
- Eight new classrooms (two of which can be combined via foldable partition)
- Two new meeting/small group rooms
- One new staff office
Please stay tuned for additional updates as construction continues and the new wing begins to take shape throughout 2025.
