Transportation Notification
School districts across the country and in our region have been working through driver shortages caused by a number of factors. The Monroe Local Schools Transportation Department has taken a number of steps to try and minimize the impact of any shortage. We continue to have openings for additional school bus drivers and are actively hiring and training. Our department has set some goals in place even in the face of possible disruptions:
- Impact the fewest number of students possible
- Prioritize special education transportation
- Provide timely and clear communication to parents/guardians
At times we may know in advance that there is a shortage while other times we may not know until shortly before a route is scheduled to depart. Communication of any issues will occur through the bus tracker app and may also include notifications from the school, phone call, or email.
Additionally, there may be times when the transportation office phone number is briefly not attended by a person as we continue to try to prioritize safe transportation of students with all available and trained staff.
To prepare for the impact of any cancellation, please review the following items:
Steps you can take:
1. Notify our transportation department using the transportation change form in the OneView parent portal if your student no longer plans to ride the bus.
2. Download the Petermnn Bus Tracker App AND opt into email notifications That system is the quickest way for our transportation team to push messages specific to one school bus route.
3. Please ensure that the district has the accurate contact phone numbers to reach parents/guardians with an automated call by updating your information in the OneView parent portal.
4. As Monroe Local Schools, like districts all across the country, struggle with the driver shortage please consider having contingency options or back-up plans in place for your student.
