Monroe Board Approves New Superintendent

On April 27, 2021, the Monroe Local School District Board of Education approved a three-year contract with J. Robert Buskirk to become the next superintendent of Monroe Local Schools. Buskirk is replacing Kathy Demers, who is retiring and taking a position with the Buckeye Association of School Administrators in Columbus. 

Buskirk is currently the interim superintendent of Lebanon City Schools and has served in a variety of leadership positions during his 19-year tenure with the district, including assistant principal, principal, and director of human resources. He began his teaching career with the Lakota Local School District and spent four years with Sycamore Community Schools both as a teacher and assistant principal.

"Robert was chosen from an incredible field of candidates from throughout the State of Ohio, and it was his passion, wide array of experience and his great communication skills that made him stand above the other candidates," said Board President Dave Grant.

Buskirk received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Miami University and is a 2015 graduate of the university's Superintendent Licensure Program. He also earned his Principal Licensure from Xavier University.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to be the next superintendent in Monroe. Throughout the entire interview process, I have been so impressed with the people I have met and their pride and support of the community and the school district. I can't wait to get started working with the amazing staff to keep moving forward and doing great things for the kids in Monroe," Buskirk said.

Buskirk officially begins his duties as superintendent on August 1, 2021. The Board approved an additional 10 days on his contract to allow for transition time into his new role before August.
