From the Pupil Personnel Department - Gifted

The Gifted program at Monroe Local Schools serves students who perform at remarkably high levels of accomplishment in the gifted areas.  These areas are Superior Cognitive Ability, Specific Content Area Ability (Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies), Creative Thinking Ability and Visual or Performing Arts Ability (Drawing, Painting, Sculpting, Music, Dance and Drama).  The definition of a “gifted” student is one who performs at, or shows the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment and who are identified under the Ohio Revised Code.

Monroe Local Schools gifted students should be encouraged to capitalize on this aptitude and will be provided opportunities for accelerated and enriched experiences that cultivate sustained higher achievement through the implementation of a rigorous, relevant and differentiated curriculum.

What formal criteria determine whether a student is gifted?

Monroe Local Schools uses a variety of assessments to determine gifted status.  Please click the link below to view more information.

What services are available to my gifted student?

Monroe Local Schools provides services through a Written Acceleration Plan (WAP) and/or a Written Education Plan (WEP).  A WAP is written for students who are accelerated by grade level or content area.  A WEP is written for students with gifted services in their general education setting. 

 

How often is a student’s WEP reviewed?

Each WEP is reviewed annually.

 

Can my child enter Kindergarten early?

Monroe Local Schools has an established Early Entrance program which complies with Ohio Revised Code (3321.01).  This program evaluates children who will turn 5 by January 1st of the school year for which early entrance is sought, and whose parents believe they should be considered for admission into kindergarten.  Please click the links below for more information.
