From the Pupil Personnel Department - Early Childhood

Monroe Early Learning Connections provides opportunities to preschool children with disabilities ages three through five in an environment that includes typically developing peers.  These services are provided through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in an inclusionary model classroom.  Children have the opportunity to receive occupational and physical therapy, as well as speech and language services.  Each class offers an inclusive environment of mixed age (3 to 5 years) children.

Mission Statement

The mission of Monroe Early Learning Connections (MELC) is to provide a quality, comprehensive and collaborative educational program that supports young children with developmental delays and their families.

Monroe Early Learning Connections Philosophy

Monroe Early Learning Connections (MELC) provides a nurturing environment which stimulates the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of children.  It promotes, a safe, caring, stimulating environment, where learning flourishes as children have time and opportunity to explore and investigate their world creatively.

MELC recognizes that children are unique individuals who enter the world ready to learn.  Our program values differences in children, building upon community diversity to foster their growth in learning through their knowledge, experiences and interests.

MELC honors the development of the whole child.  Our program recognizes the social nature of learning, the importance of interactions, cooperation and collaboration.  Teachers and families consult and collaborate to create a climate of respect, success and joy necessary for life-long learning.

MELC recognizes the essential role that language plays in mediating thought, communication and growth.  A language rich environment encourages creative exploration with a balance of child initiated, teacher facilitated and age appropriate activities to develop language communication skills.
