Hornets Qualify 3 to Cross Country State Championships

The Monroe Boys and Girls Cross Country program's qualified a total of 3 student-athletes to this weekend's OHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 4. The State Championship Meet once again returns to National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio where its been held since 2011. Three State Qualifiers is the most ever in one season for Monroe High School.

Competing at the OHSAA Regional Meet in Troy, Ohio, Senior Rachel Ploeger paced not only the Hornets but the entire Girls Division II Race finishing in first place as the Regional Champion in a time of 18:35.22 - nearly 30 seconds ahead of 2nd Place finisher Perri Bockrath from Alter High School. Also qualifying for the State Meet was Sophomore Emily McMurry who finished in 15th Place with a time of 20:07.75. 

On the Boys side, making his first appearance at the OHSAA Regional Meet, Monroe Freshman Marty Zumbiel finished in 16th Place with a time of 16:51.88 to qualify for the State Championship Meet. 

The top 16 individuals and 4 teams qualified to advance from the Regional Meet to the State Championship Meet.
