In 2013, the members of the Southwest District Athletic Board initiated an award entitled "Friends of Athletics". The objective of the award was to recognize individuals that go beyond the call of duty to see that their local high school athletic programs give its athletes the very best experience. The award is given to individuals who have given twenty-five years or more of volunteer service. Since the inception of the award, thirty-one individuals that have been nominated by their local school administration have been honored.
This year, the Monroe Local School District nominated Mr. Tom Leeds for this prestigious honor. Mr. Leeds is a 1959 graduate of Lemon-Monroe High School and has served on the sidelines of Monroe Hornet football games for over 50 years as member of “Chain Gang”. Additionally, Mr. Leeds has served our school and community in many other capacities including 32 years as a volunteer firefighter and three terms as a member of the Monroe Local Schools’ Board of Education.
Mr. Leeds was recognized on Saturday, March 11 at the University of Dayton's Arena during halftime of the Boys Division I District Championship basketball game.
Congratulations to Mr. Tom Leeds and thank you for your many years of service to our students, school district and community!
